Lauren
Lauren was found under my sister’s porch unconscious and emaciated. From that sad beginning she flew to Paris where she would begin her new life, eating to her heart’s content in Paris’s finest restaurants.
In her twelfth year of life she developed bladder cancer, specifically transitional cell carcinoma, a very aggressive cancer with a high rate of reoccurrence.
She underwent radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and surgery....and while her physical body had begun to fail, her spirit never did. Throughout her procedures she exemplified great courage and never lost her spirit for living life. The treatments bought us time, and she recovered with tremendous appetite, chasing bunnies almost every day. This healthy, happy time was a gift to Lauren and Kay.
The vets all expected Lauren to go within six weeks. She made it twenty-one months from the time she was diagnosed. So she has to be counted as a huge success story and I think that’s in part due to the enormous amount of love she received.
I was amazed and overwhelmed by the number of people who cared for her and the love and compassion she inspired.
